MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging

At Clarity Imaging Centre, we use the cutting-edge 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, designed to provide exceptional image quality, with minimal noise and maximum patient comfort. Compared to traditional analogue systems, 1.5T MRI has advanced digital coils to capture signals with unparalleled precision, resulting in quick, precise and high-quality imaging.

With advanced capabilities, this technology is ideal for a wide range of diagnostic applications—including neurology, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and abdominal scans. It is also optimized for patients with orthopaedic metal implants such as those with knee or hip prosthesis , ensuring both safety and diagnostic clarity. To further enhance patient experience, the scanner’s spacious design and ambient lighting help reduce claustrophobia, providing a more relaxed environment, especially for anxious individuals.

FAQ's : MRI Scan at Clarity Imaging Centre

What is an MRI scan?

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of internal organs and tissues without radiation exposure.

Why would I need an MRI scan?

MRI scans help doctors diagnose, monitor, and plan treatment for complex neurological, cardiac, orthopaedic and abdominal conditions. Your doctor may recommend an MRI depending upon the diagnostic information required.

How does an MRI scan work?

During the procedure, you will be required to lie still on a table as the MRI machine captures images using magnetic coils. These coils can produce noise due to rapid switching, but earplugs and advanced noise-reduction technology are provided to minimize discomfort. A radiographer will explain the procedure beforehand, monitor you throughout the scan from the control room, and stay in constant communication via an intercom to ensure your comfort and safety.

Who should not undergo an MRI?

MRI scans are generally safe as they don’t use ionizing radiation. However, they are unsuitable for people with certain implants, such as brain aneurysm clips or cardiac pacemakers. Additionally, pregnant women—especially in the first trimester—should avoid MRI scans unless absolutely necessary. It is essential to inform the medical staff of any implants, medical devices, or other health conditions prior to the scan to ensure your safety.

Do I need to prepare for my MRI scan?

Preparation requirements vary depending on the type of scan. In some cases, you may be asked to fast for up to two hours before the procedure. Please inform our staff of any allergies, implants, medical conditions, or pregnancy when scheduling your appointment and before the scan, so appropriate precautions can be taken.

Do I need a prior appointment for MRI scan?

Yes, scheduling an appointment in advance is advisable. We recommend calling our front office at least a day ahead to book your MRI and avoid unnecessary delays. Please note that Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be our busiest days. Our staff will also inform you about any special preparations needed for specific types of scans. Do not forget to bring all relevant medical records and previous scan films during your appointment.

How long does the scan take?

With our advanced 1.5T MRI scanner, most procedures are completed within 15 to 20 minutes. Scans requiring contrast may take longer. To ensure a smooth experience and avoid delays, we recommend booking your appointment in advance and arriving on time. If you need to reschedule, please notify us as early as possible.

How will a child undergo an MRI scan?

Children may require sedation to help them stay still during the MRI scan, ensuring clear and accurate images. To enhance the effectiveness of sedation, it is recommended to keep the child awake later than usual the night before and wake them early on the day of the scan. Our team will provide specific instructions and ensure the child’s safety and comfort throughout the procedure.

Will I experience discomfort during the scan?

Most patients experience no discomfort during the MRI scan. However, some may feel claustrophobic. If you have any concerns, please inform the radiographer beforehand. If necessary, an accompanying person can join you in the scan room, and two-way communication with the radiographer is available at all times.

What happens after the scan?

You can resume normal activities immediately after, including eating and drinking. Our front office staff will assist you with payment and inform you of the time required to generate your report.

How long does it take to get MRI results?

Reports are typically available within 4 hours. For more complex cases or follow-up studies requiring comparison, the report will be provided the following day to ensure our Radiologists have adequate time for accurate interpretation.
